March 23, 2015 – Sequoias, also known as coastal redwoods or California redwoods, are the tallest living things on earth. An ambitious project is underway in Cornwall, England, to grow these giant trees from saplings cloned in the United States. The environmental conditions in southwestern England are similar to northern California.
Among the saplings being transplanted are those that came from the Fieldbrook Stump, the remains of a 30-story, 3500-year-old tree chopped down in Humboldt, California, in 1890.
