Rare “Shoeless Joe” Autographed Photo Worth $100,000

February 10, 2015 – Call it the Holy Grail of baseball signatures.  A one-of-a-kind autographed photo of Shoeless Joe Jackson, remembered for throwing the 1919 World Series, is expected to bring at least $100,000 at auction.  Experts believe there are fewer than 100 autographs of the disgraced player in existence and no other autographed photos.

The recent discovery was in a scrapbook of Cleveland, Ohio, baseball players from the 1900s.  Over the objections of his wife, Bill Bowen had bought the collection for $15,000 five years ago from descendants of a newspaper photographer.  After Bowen died last April, his family decided to sell the collection and only then discovered the value of the Jackson photograph.
