10-Year-Olds Finally Meet Their WWII Hero

April 7, 2015 – A family vacation that included a tour of the USS Yorktown kindled an interest in history and led to a new friend for two North Carolina twin brothers.  While touring the decommissioned aircraft carrier docked in Charleston, South Carolina, Carter and Jack Hanson met a woman whose brother had served on the ship during World War II.  Wanting to know more about him and his experiences, the boys began corresponding daily by e-mail with 89-year-old Robert Harding.  Their correspondence has continued for the last year.

The aging veteran recently traveled to Charleston from his home in Oklahoma so the boys could meet their hero aboard the ship that had sparked their friendship.
