April 18, 2015 – Officials with the U.S. Bureau of Land Management were surprised by the number of applicants for a job opening to live and work in a Montana ghost town with no electricity or indoor plumbing and groceries in lieu of wages. Inquiries came in from all over the U.S. and as far away as South Africa, China, Germany, and the United Kingdom. The new hire will be required to maintain the structures and give tours.
Garnet was established in 1895 to support local mining, but was largely abandoned by the 1940s.
