Lost WWII Love Letter Returned

February 14, 2015 – A G.I.’s 1944 letter written on a European battlefield to his girlfriend in Kansas has been returned to the 90-year-old former soldier, now living in Colorado.  Bill Moore served in General George Patton’s Third Army.  Ilene Ortiz, also of Colorado, found the missive in an album cover she purchased at a thrift store and determined to find the owner before Valentine’s Day.  She enlisted the help of the ABC affiliate in Denver.  Together they located Moore’s daughter, who will take the letter to her father residing in a veteran’s assisted care facility.  His wife, Bernadean, kept his letters throughout their 63-year marriage, but they were lost after she passed away in 2010.  This is the only letter the grateful family has recovered.
